Golovkin to fight Cotto: Freddie Roach25 сентября 2015, 18:55
Miguel Cotto's coach Freddie Roach named Gennady Golovkin, the undefeated middleweight champion from Kazakhstan, the world's top boxer that should fight the Puerto Rican WBC champion next, Tengrinews reports citing Inquisitr.com.
Interestingly, Roach was not interested in Golovkin previously, saying that the Kazakhstani was not financially viable. But now, after Floyd Maywether Jr's retirement and Golovkin's upcoming first PPV fight against David Lemiuex, Roach seems to have changed his opinion.
Cotto is fighting Saul "Canelo" Alavrez on November 21 for the WBC title. According to the WBC rules, the winner of the Cotto-Alvarez fight is facing the winner of the Golovkin-Lemiuex.
"He's the best fighter out there right now. He knocks everyone out. He's not fighting any big names like that, but there are no big names in the division right now. But whoever they put in front of him, he's knocking them out. He's looking pretty good to me. I like watching him," Roach told FightHype boxing site.
If earlier Roach was against Golovkin facing Cotto, now he says Triple G should fight Cotto.
"I would like (Cotto) to fight Triple G next," the Hall of Fame trainer told BoxingScene.com.
Meanwhile, HBO has released Greatest Hits: Gennady Golovkin in anticipation of the first PPV fight against the Canadian IBF title holder David Lemieux.
The video presents an overview of the best KOs throughout Golovkin's US debut. The KO king among middleweights Golovkin crushes his opponents with frightening ease.
Gennady Golovkin is facing David Lemiuex in the middleweight title unification bout on October 17 at Madison Square Garden.
