Gennady Golovkin, a star boxer from Kazakhstan, is slowly but steadily getting closer to the leading place in the Pound-for-Pound rating, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Undefeated Triple G has taken over the second place of the P4P after Floyed Maywether Jr has announcing his retirement from the sport.

Undefeated Triple G has taken over the second place of the P4P after Floyed Maywether Jr has announcing his retirement from the sport.
According to Boxrec.com, the middleweight champion follows Vladimir Klitchko who took the first place of the P4P rating. The Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is on the third place.
Mayweather's final fight took place September 13 in Las Vegas where he defeated Andre Berto.
Meanwhile, ESPN named Golovkin the number one candidate to step in Mayweather's shoe and become "the face of the sport over the next few years".
"His inability to land the biggest names as one of boxing’s most avoided fighters hasn’t slowed Golovkin’s climb up the P4P ladder. With an appealing combination of power, humility and charm, the Kazakh slugger has slowly become the darling of boxing fans since making his U.S. debut in 2012," Brian Campbell of ESPN wrote. Golovkin is defending his WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim titles against David Lemiuex on October 17 at the Madison Square Garden.
Golovkin is followed by 25 y.o. Alvarez who has gained considerable recognition outside of his home country. Alvarez is facing the WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on November 21.
The winner of the Golovkin-Lemieux title unification bout will be facing the winner of the Cotto-Alvarez fight.
