Fight Golovkin in true Mexican style: Rubio26 august 2014, 15:40
Rubio will face unbeaten Golovkin of Kazakhstan in the ring on October 18 in a unification fight. The winner of the fight will face Miguel Cotto, WBC middleweight champion to unify titles in middleweight category.
“What good is being a champion if I am not going to fight the best. Even before I was a champion, I faced the best fighters in the division. Now that I am (a champion), it is all the more reason I should fight (the best) and not shun anyone. We are motivated to face Golovkin,” Rubio stated.
Rubio, 34, has a record of 59 fights with a 51 KOs. He has lost 6 fights so far. In April, Rubio won the interim WBC middleweight title in a fight against Domenico Spada. Before Spada, Rubio had last fought in July of 2013 against Dioniso Miranda and won with a KO in the 2nd round of the 12-round fight.
“I am a fighter who likes challenges. And it is not enough to just say that, you have to prove it, so I took this fight. I am very happy to face a great world champion; it is the biggest challenge that I have accepted in my career, and I plan to fight Golovkin in a true Mexican style,” Rubio added.
