Could not keep Golovkin off and felt gutted: Murray after fight24 february 2015, 20:12
After the defeat on Saturday, Martin Murray talked about the fight and praised his opponent Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports.
Murray admitted his disappointment after putting so much effort in the preparations for the fight against Golovkin.
“Golovkin is a good fighter, very strong. (…) That was the best I could do and it was not good enough. I’m absolutely gutted. He’s a great champion, a great fighter and there wasn’t much more I could do,” Murray said.
The British boxer stated that he had never been in a knockdown before. “I just could not keep him off. Even when I caught him with a few good shots, I’d get his attention, but he was always still there and I couldn’t keep him off. Although he hits hard, it’s the combination of power and pressure that makes him such a good fighter,” Murray added.

The 32 y.o. fighter admitted that “it was great to fight someone of that caliber”. Murray added that he did not take pride in standing against Golovkin for 11 rounds, because he got beaten.
“It has been an honor. I thank him for the fight,” Murray continued, “He’s strong, he’s tough, he is on a different level to the other middleweight world champions”.
Despite the defeat, Murray was optimistic about his future possibilities in the ring against other middleweights. “I definitely think I’m the second best middleweight in the world but I haven’t got a belt,” the boxer said. Earlier, Golovkin's coach Abel Sanches even called Murray the "uncrowned champion" who got robbed of victories twice.
Murray decided to see what the middleweight division has left and possibly move up in the weight division in the future.
