Imangali Tasmagambetov, Akim (Mayor) of Astana presented Kazakhstan’s female boxer Marina Volnova who won bronze at the 30th London Summer Olympic Games with an apartment and her coach Berik Marzhikpayev with a 5 million tenge ($33,800) certificate, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Astana Akim press-service.

“The President congratulated all Olympic winners and Kazakhstan citizens on this big victory. I would like to join these congratulations and fulfill his instructions by presenting you with these keys to an apartment,” Akim said during the awarding ceremony. “This apartment is only a small sign of our gratitude, dignities to you for your merits and your efforts,” Tasmagambetov said.

“Marina you are Astana resident, although you were born in Kyzylorda and we are really proud of you. Let there be light, comfort and warmth in your apartment and may your medal bring good luck and happiness to you,” Tasmagambetov told the athlete. He also added that in spite of the fact that Marina won a bronze medal, it is equal to a gold one.

Marina’s coach, Honored Coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the USSR Master of Sports Berik Marzhikpayev got a five million tenge ($33,800) certificate. According to Volnova, she is going to start training as soon as all the official events are over and will be preparing for new tournaments, including the next Rio-de-Janeiro Olympic Games.

“We are discussing and and analyzing Olympic fights with my coach. The coach will draft a training schedule for the next four years and we will stick to this schedule and continue training,” Olympic bronze prize-winner said.

Marina Volnova is a patrol force officer of Astana Department of Internal Affairs in her everyday life. Astana Department of Internal Affairs honored the Olympic bronze prize-winner by awarding her with Kazakhstan Politsiyassyna 20 Zhyl (20 Years of Kazakhstan Police) anniversary medal.
