The fight of 30-y.o. Kazakhstan professional boxer Gennady Golovkin against 37-y.o. Nobuhiro Ishida from Japan ended in a knockout at the Salle des etoiles in Monte-Carlo (Monaco). The fight was aired by Kazakhstan TV channel.

The Karaganda boxer (26-0, 23 KO’s) knocked out the opponent (24-9-2, 9 KO’s) with a right hook in the third round. Golovkin defended his WBA world middleweight champion title.

Nobuhiro Ishida had never been knocked out before. But Golovkin almost knocked him out twice. He had Ishida hurt by the end of the 2nd round after Golovkin's two huge right hand blows to the head that left Ishida shaken and almost knocked out. The third round followed the pattern and ended in an impressive move when Golovkin just flattened Ishida with a single right hand knocking him clean out. Ishida's head hit the bottom rope and he stayed motionless for about a minute before getting back on his feet.

Prince of Monaco Albert II personally put the champion’s belt on Golovkin. Kazakhstan Olympic winner Aleksandre Vinokourov was also seen in the hall.

After the fight Golovkin said that Ishida was a good boxer and once again mentioned he wanted to fight with Argentinean Sergio Martinez.

Golovkin also mentioned wanting to fight in June and named Brian Vera and Matthew Macklin as his possible opponents.

Gennady Golovkin (also known as GGG) is an undefeated boxer from Kazakhstan who competed in the Middleweight (75 kg) divison at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the silver medal. He is the current WBA and IBO Middleweight Champion. With an 88% knockout percentage rate, Golovkin holds the greatest KO ratio in middleweight championship history and is 1st amongst all active current and former champions, and 3rd in overall championship history. He has never been knocked down or knocked out in 375 fights, both as a professional and amateur.
