Boxing: Kazakhstan wins 1st place at Boxing Worlds

The Kazakhstan national boxing team has won the first place with 8 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze) at the World Boxing Championship by the medal count. The second place went to the Cuban national team (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and the Azerbaijan team won the third place with 2 gold and 1 bronze medals, Tengrinews reports. The AIBA World Boxing Championship Almaty 2013 was held on October 14-26 at Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sport in Almaty, Kazakhstan. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev attended the AIBA World Boxing Championship finals and witnessed the victories of the Kazakhstan team on October 26. Birzhan Zhakypov won the first gold medal for Kazakhstan in the -49kg weight division. He won over Algeria's Mohamed Flissi in the final bout. The second gold was earned by Merey Akshalov in the -64kg weight category. Merey fought against Cuba's Yasnier Lopez in his finals to win the champion's title. Daniyar Yeleussinov, captain of the Kazakhstan national team, gained the third gold medal for his team. He represented Kazakhstan in the -69kg weight category. Daniyar faced Arisnoidys Despaigne of Cuba in the tight and intensive final fight. Besides winning the gold, Daniyar Yeleussinov was also awarded with the 2013 World Champion and AIBA Elite Man Boxer of 2013. Middleweight boxer Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (-75kg) fought against Jason Quigley from Ireland in the finals and brought the fourth gold to his team, gaining an indisputable and classy victory. Kazakhstan's boxers Ivan Dychko (+91kg) and Adilbek Niyazymbetov (-81kg) won silver medals at the World Championship. Dychko lost his final bout to Magomedrasul Medzhidov from Azerbaijan and Niyazymbetov failed to win over Cuba's Julio Peraza. Kairat Yeraliyev (-56kg) and Berik Abdrakhmanov (-60kg) won the bronze medals for Kazakhstan. Myrzagaly Aitzhanov, Chief Coach of the Kazakhstan National Boxing Team, received the Best AIBA Coach of the Year award. He has been the team's chief coach for five years already.
