The 2012 Bandy World Championship (unofficially known as Russian hockey) will take place in Almaty in the end of January – beginning of February 2012.
16 teams from all over the world will take part in the championship, chief coach of Kazakh national bandy team Aleksandr Ionkin told Tengrinews.kz.

Russian, Swedish, Finnish and Kazakh teams are considered the favorites of the 2012 championship. The chief coach of the national team forecasts that these countries will be among the finalists fighting for gold.

Organizers of the championship plan to hold a test competition for the world’s strongest teams in September this year at the high-altitude skating rink Medeu near Almaty.

No preparations are yet seen in the city. the organizing committee hasn’t been formed yet and no preliminary preparations are being carried out.

“Preparations seem to be on. But nothing is yet known for sure. We don’t know who will be doing what yet,” Ionkin said.

The Bandy World Championship is a competition between bandy-playing nations played annually.
Kazakhstan won bronze in the championship in 2003 and 2005.
