Almaty bidding to host FIS Nordic Ski World Championship 2019

Almaty city has been declared a candidate to host the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship 2019, Tengrinews reports referring to press-office of the Executive Directorate of the Almaty Universiade 2017.


Almaty city has been declared a candidate to host the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship 2019, Tengrinews reports referring to press-office of the Executive Directorate of the Almaty Universiade 2017.

On June 2, 2014, the 49th International Ski Federation (FIS) Congress officially begun in Barcelona, the capital of Spain.

Candidate-cities will be presenting their expositions for 3 days. On June 5, 2014 FIS will select the official host of the FIS World Championship in Nordic Events 2019 and declare the city at the Gala Dinner.

A delegation of the Executive Directorate of the Almaty Universiade 2017 and National Ski Association of Kazakhstan lead by Deputy Akim (Vice-Mayor) of Almaty Zauresh Amanzholova are responsible for presenting the city of Almaty at the event.

The initial submission of candidate-cities' bids to host the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship 2019 took place on October 1, 2013 in Zurich, Switzerland.

The other applicant cities are Oberstdorf (Germany), Planica (Slovenia) and Seefeld in Tirol (Austria).

FIS Nordic World Ski Championships have been held in various numbers and types of events since 1925 for men and since 1954 for women. Championship events include nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country skiing and ski jumping).

The FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2017 will be held in Lahti, Finland.
