The Spirit of Tengri
Tengri FM radio station and STV channel present the First Kazakhstan’s International Festival of Contemporary Ethnic Music Performers The Spirit of Tengri. The concert will be held on June 8 at the square in front of Mega Alma-Ata mall and will include performances of 12 music bands from all around Eurasia, Tengrinews.kz reports.

Most prominent Kazakhstan participants of the event are: Aldaspan band famous for its outstanding performance at Tengri FM First Rock Music Awards, an authentic ethnic-folk band Hapanasasa and solo singers: Korlan (a virtual zhetygen player) and Naya with unbelievable vocal. The festival will be opened by Kazakhstan rock veterans, Roksonaki band.

Fans of ethnic music will get a chance to see world-famous artists. Buryatiya will be represented by Namgar band famous around the world with not only its unique sounds but also with the exceptional musicians. Tuva singer and improviser Sainkho Namchylak, famous for her excellent guttural singing mixed with jazz, blues and avant-garde, will perform with DJ Dickson from Hong Kong. The concert will also include performances of Argymak band from Bashkortastan, Chyltys Tannagasheva from Mountain Shoriya, imrpovisor and virtuoso khomuz player Juliana from Yakutiya, singer Gulzada from Kyrgyzstan and multi-instrumentalist Bolot Bairyshev from Altai.

“This is a new and very interesting direction for Kazakhstan. I know Kazakh music and folklore pretty well. This will be an ethno-electronic version. Every festival is now looking for its own path and interesting approach. I think that The Spirit of Tengri festival has found its path,” musician Bolot Bairyshev said.

Ethnic music is the beginning of everything, president of Alash Media Group holding Batyr Kazybayev said. “In my view, the historic heritage of the Great Steppe has been undeservedly forgotten. Remembering, restoring and reconstructing the great heritage and culture of the people sharing the same Tengri (sky) is very important for the national identity of all the people who have resided and still reside at the Eurasian continent. This is a very rich cultural layer that is full of unforgettable experience for almost everyone who touches it. That’s why I think that remembering the roots is very important for Kazakhstan that is the only nation among the steppe people to obtain its independence among the steppe people of the Eurasian continent,” Batyr Kazybayev said.

The joint project of Tengri FM radio and STV channel The Spirit of Tengri called to bring together ethnic and cultural traditions of the Eurasian continent was launched around a year ago. At the initial stage songs of the performers were rotated on the radio and TV to introduce them to Kazakhstan citizens. Fans could vote for the song they liked at the event’s official page. And now the festival will bring together people, cultural traditions and music genres from all around the world, uniting them under the Kazakhstan sky.

The open air concert will be held on June 8 at the square in front of Mega Alma-Ata mall. The show will start at 07:00 p.m. and will last for around 3 hours. The entry to the festival will be free of charge.
