Amina Usmanova from Almaty has become the second runner-up at the 2013 Miss & Mister Deaf International Pageant in Sofia, Bulgaria, Express K reports. Participants from 25 different countries competed at the contest. Amina impressed the jury with her gesture singing and a Kazakh national dance.

"The contest was held in Prague last year, I took part in it too, but failed to win any prize. I'm not the kind of person who gives up easy. I made my mind to win the recognition this year. I've never lost faith in myself, I did choreography a lot. I did my best to win the second runner-up title," the girl said.

"The atmosphere was very friendly in spite of the competition. I read a lot about usual beauty pageants and I know that relationships between the contestants get difficult sometimes. Girls at regular pageants do not help each other, instead they try to through obstacles in each others paths. But at the Miss and Mister Deaf contest nobody refuses to help and there is no hatred and jealousy. I found a lot of new friends in Sofia," Amina said through a sign language interpreter.

The 19-y.o. girl is a future hairdresser and make-up artist. Amina hopes to work for a model agency. She realizes that deafness makes it very difficult to work on a podium or in front of the cameras but still hopes her dream will come true.

The Miss International title was given to Miss Deaf Brazil Lais Goncalves and Mister Deaf Germany Rafael Grombelka got the Mister International title at the 2013 Miss & Mister Deaf International Pageant. The holders of the first runner-up title are Miss Thailand Parswoya Yaucharoen and Mister Ukraine Osman Abbasovich. Mister Norway Mangus Mangus took the second runner-up title.

Miss & Mister Deaf International, Inc is an organization that pledges to empower, enhance and support today’s ever changing and ever growing community of deaf women and men.
