A robot will be used for emergency response and production control at Kashagan field, mgorod.kz writes.

Sensabot robot was presented at the ceremony of unveiling of of Bolashak oil and gas processing plant in Atyrau oblast. The ceremony was attended by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and British Prime-Minister David Cameron.

The robot is one of the technological innovations that Kazakhstan and American scientists have developed for Kashagan. Sensabot was designed by the U.S. National Robotics Center and Nazarbayev University supplied it with a Wi-Fi connection.

“At the first stage the remote-controlled Sensabot will be equipped with gas and vibration sensors, as well as with 11 cameras. This will enable it to perform round-the-clock checks. This part of the project will be ready for implementation by the end of 2014. At the second stage of development, by the end of 2015, Sensabot will be ready to perform hazardous tasks, such as sampling, closing and opening valves, turning switches,” engineer David Rice said.

Kashagan project is the biggest oil project in Kazakhstan by the number of people involved. Over 50 thousand people have been employed with the project since its beginning. It currently employs over 18 thousand people, 75 percent of them are Kazakhstan citizens.
