New reserve launch pad to be built in Baikonur

By the end of this year Russia is planning to prepare a reserve launch pad for launching manned shuttles to the International Space Station (ISS) from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Interfax reports citing Anatoly Perminov, head of Roscosmos, Russian Federal Space Agency.

According to Perminov, it took two years to prepare the 31st pad for launching manned shuttles. Earlier all Soyuz manned shuffles under the ISS program were launched from Gagarin launch site at the first pad of the Cosmodrome.

Perminov said that the main objective od the coming space flight is to dock two last American shuttles to the ISS.

A new crew for Soyuz TMA-21 at the ISS has already been approved.
