Almaty students have developed a robot-assisted system for storage facilities, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to one of the project’s authors Almaz Ayapov, some entrepreneurs have already shown interest in the system.

The inventors have already made a prototype of the warehouse robot and started writing a software that would make the system work. The “employees” of the automated storage facility will be moving along special routes following special markings (based on RFID radio frequency identification). According to Ayapov, human participation in the system has been made almost fully unnecessary and only 3 operators are required for the whole warehouse.

This is the first time a system like this will be used in Kazakhstan. The inventors plan to test it on an Internet sales company. Ayapov says that a major discount service has taken interest in the development. The technology is expected to be ready for implementation by the end of 2013 and it may be installed in a company in 2014.

The project will be presented at the ASTEX-2013 exhibition that will be held on May 21-22 during the 6th Astana Economic Forum.
