The quality of the road-surface of the Western Europe - Western China transport corridor will be tested by a Dynatest portable laboratory from Denmark, Tengrinews reports.

Dynatest is a specialized civil engineering company that specializes in pavement engineering services, pavement testing equipment, pavement performance analysis software and pavement management.

According to Bagdat Teltayev, President of KazDor R&D Institute, the tests will start in spring 2014. "We are planning to evaluate the condition of the newly built Western Europe-Western China road," Teltayev said. The equipment allows real-time reporting of the test results.

The portable lab is capable of detecting defects of road-surfacing on-the-fly and provide recommendations on the required repairs. The lab is equipped with a device measuring the adhesion coefficient of automobile tire and road surface and with a dynamic tester that quickly determines the durability of the road-surface. The lab can classify defects into types. "It immediately offers recommended solutions for the road-surface defects its discovers," Teltayev said describing the lab. The lab costs 250 million tenge ($1.6 million), he added.

Vice-President of KazDor R&D Institute Yerbol Aitbayev explained that the portable lab will be inspecting the Western Europe-Western China road using a ground penetrating radar. The radar enables it to scan the surface to determine its age and density of the layers without needing to drill into them or excavate anything. The scanning depth of georadar exceeds 1.5 meters.

Aitbayev promised that the road condition data base will be made accessible to public in 2015, as part of the Institute's plans to introduce electronic certification of Kazakhstan roads. The institute plans to purchase three more portable labs worth 50 million tenge ($320 thousand).

Vice-Chairman of the Automobile Roads Committee of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan Satzhan Ablaliev said that the international transit corridor Western Europe - Western China will be fully put to use and open for traffic in the end of 2015. Whereas in 2014 KazDor was going to diagnose 1 thousand kilometers of the road and certify 1.5 thousand kilometers of roads in Kazakhstan, including the recently reconstructed sections.
