The Ministry of Internal Affairs is planning to open DNA laboratories in Kazakhstan's regions, Tengrinews reports referring to First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Marat Demeuv.

"We are paying special attention to development of forensics. We are working on introducing modern methods of development of laboratory database, involving creation of a database of DNA samples of convicts and a database of DNA from biological traces from crime and accident scenes. There are DNA laboratories in Astana and Almaty already, and now we are going to establish the laboratories in other regions of Kazakhstan as well," Demeuv said.

According to the Minister, the Interior Ministry purchased 16 mobile forensic laboratories with modern equipment and established a genome physico-chemical laboratory in 2013.

"The new amendments introduced into the Criminal Procedures Code have vested forensics experts with a right to make their statement on cases that are now allowed into evidence. This speeds up the investigation process," Demeuv pointed out.
