UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon invited Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the nuclear security summit to be held on September 22 in New York, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and former Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wrote in his Twitter.

“UN Secretary General is calling for a high-level security meeting in New York on September 22. The presidents of the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea and other countries are invited,” Tokayev tweeted.

Ban Ki-moon announced the nuclear security summit on June 6. The calling of the summit was triggered by the recent meltdown at Fukushima-1 nuclear station in Japan. According to Secretary-General, the incident with Fukushima stressed out the huge importance of nuclear security problems and reminded of the necessity to take collective and global steps.
