Kazakhstan and Korea have agreed on three major joint projects: construction of the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant, construction of a gas chemical facility in Atyrau Oblast and development of Zhambyl oil and gas field, Tengrinews reports citing IA Novosti-Kazakhstan.

The agreements were inked yesterday, in the course of South Korean president Park Geun-hye's state visit to Astana.

“Together with president Nazarbayev we have agree to carry out three major joint projects: construction of the Balkhash thermal power plant and a gas chemical complex in Atyrau Oblast, and development of Zhambyl field,” she said.

Park Geun-hye added that both presidents welcomed expansion of production at Tengiz oil and gas field.

“Together with president Nazarbayev we have agreed to jointly work towards development of the two countries and diversification of Kazakhstan's economy by means of expanding cooperation in such areas as infrastructure and construction, science, technology, forestry and ecology,” the South Korean president said.

In particular, she offered to cooperate in modernization of Kazakhstan's railways, and the countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in railways in the course of her visit to Kazakhstan.

To further emphasize the importance of all-round cooperation between the countries, she added that a center of Korean culture would be established at the Nazarbayev University in Astana to popularize Korea and offer Korean language training.
