Kazakhstan’s President criticized revolutions in the Arab world, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing his speech at an extended sitting of the country’s Foreign Ministry April 20.

“The information space is growing global. These changes entail not only advantages, but also serious challenges to countries’ development. As the Arab spring shows, societies not ready for values promoted by Western media are the most vulnerable to these challenges”.

“Democracy is a choice to be made by nations on their own (…) without tragic concussions and revolutions. There is no ultimate democracy model suiting everyone. Each nation should define its future relying on its culture, traditions, political systems. Changes should not be imposed from the outside. Those nations that have lived through popular uprisings have rolled 10 or 15 years back in terms of economic development”, President said.

President emphasized that the task of the global community is to make sure “the transformation process brings more benefits than losses to the Arab world”.
