Serbia has received humanitarian aid from Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Kazakhstan sent 42 water containers, one thousand beds, 170 tents, 2.5 thousand bedding packs and 340 kettles by railway to the Serbian regions suffering from the flood. All in all, 10 train wagons were dispatched,” the Ministry reported.

On May 19, Serbia officially requested humanitarian aid after the recent catastrophic flood. The Kazakhstani government made a decision to aid Serbia’s recovery after the natural disaster and send $200 thousand worth of humanitarian aid to Serbia. The decision to dispatch the humanitarian load was made on July 31, 2014.

The Deputy Foreign Minister Goran Petrovic on behalf of the Serbian government and people thanked Kazakhstan for the humanitarian aid.

The Serbian government thanked Russian relief workers, European Union, Belarus, Balkan countries and thousands of Serbian volunteers that helped during the emergency situation. However, the scale of the natural disaster and the danger of the Sava river overflow requires more help and work to normalize the situation in the country.

According to AFP, almost two million people were affected by the May floods in Serbia and Bosnia.

Hundreds of thousands people were evacuated, many of them left homeless, while 77 people were killed, mostly in Serbia and Bosnia.

The damage for the two countries was estimated at some 3.5 billion euros ($4.7 billion).
