Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has given a hint that the headcount of state-run inspection bodies should be reduced, a Tengrinws.kz journalist reports.

“Planned inspections of small businesses should be a thing of the past in 2015. When I declare a moratorium on inspecting small businesses I think of the headcount of state-run inspection bodies that remains unchanged (…) the headcount of financial police, police, National Security Committee, sanitary control authority, fire control authority remains unchanged. What will be there to keep all these officers busy? (…) there is a moratorium on inspecting small businesses and the officers have no job to do”, President said when speaking at the sitting of the Foreign Investors' Council (FIC).

“The number of public officers never gets decreased and even tends to grow. The Government should look into how much money we spend on these inspecting officers (…) so that we wouldn’t get back to the issue [of troublesome inspections hampering development of small businesses]”, he said.

The moratorium on inspecting small and middle-sized business came into force April 2 and will be in place to January 1, 2015.
