President Nazarbayev suggests Turkic Speaking States develop a joint mechanisms to overcome the global financial crisis

President Nazarbayev of Kazkahstan met his Azerbaijan counterpart Ilkham Aliyev and Kyrgyzstan counterpart Roza Otumbayeva as well as Vice Prime Minister of Turkey Bekir Bozdağ within the first Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States in Almaty.

The summit was opened by President Nazarbayev.

President called to work out a joint meachanism to overcome the global financial crisis. “The first Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States is being held against the dropback of the global economic crisis. We need to develop a joint mechanisms of Turkic speaking states to combat the crisis”, the President said.

October 20 Almaty hosted a business forum with businessmen reperesenting the four countries. The forum resulted in signing a document to launch a Business Council of Turkic Speaking States. Besides, President Nazarbayev met his Azerbaijan counterpart Ilkham Aliyev.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) was established in 2009 as an international intergovernmental organization, with the overarching aim of promoting comprehensive cooperation among Turkic Speaking States. Its four founding member States are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

According to the two main CCTS documents, the Nakhcivan Agreement of 3 October 2009 and the Istanbul Declaration of 16 September 2010, member States of CCTS embrace the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, along with other universally recognized principles of international law. Established norms related to the maintenance of peace, security and development of good-neighbourly relations lay the foundation for cooperation to be promoted under CCTS. The Council seeks to strengthen the unity of the people living in related cultures and languages.
