Nurzhan Kalenderov has been appointed the new Akim (Mayor) of Taraz city in southern Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Akim of Taraz. In the past 6 months, Kalenderov has been working as Akim of Kordai region. He graduated from Dzhambul Technology Institute of Light and Food Industries majoring in International Economic Relations. He used to work as an accountant for several years before becoming a specialist at the State Pension Payment Center in 2000-2003. Later, he worked at the Zhambyl Oblast Administration as a chief specialist in 2003-2005. From 2005 to 2011 Kalenderov was promoted from a department chief to the head of the financial administration of Zhambyl Oblast Akim. He replaced Bekbolat Orynbekov as Akim of Taraz. The former Akim was appointed First Deputy Akim of Zhambyl Oblast.
