Nazarbayev offers Massimov as new Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan has offered Karim Massimov as the new Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan hour after the Kazakhstan Government and Prime-Minster Serik Akhmetov resigned, Tengrinews reports city the presidential press-service.

It is going to be the second term as Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan for Karim Massimov if the president's proposal finds support of the ruling party and the Parliament. He already had a very successful term from January 10, 2007 to September 24, 2012. After that he became Head of the Presidential Administration in September 2012.

Before he was appointed Prime-Minister for the first time he served as Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Budget Planning and Minister of Transport and Communications.

President Nazarbayev said that the current Cabinet was successfully fulfilling its tasks and thanked the officials for their hard work, but continued that new approaches were needed to achieve the ambitious goals set in the Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy amid the existing complicated situation in the world’s economy.

“The said goals aimed at getting Kazakhstan to join the top 30 most development countries of the world require advanced solutions. Amid the global financial and economic crisis we may also face some difficulties. We need to cooperate with international financial institutions and attract investments into our country. We need an experienced leader who knows the field to do this job,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Karim Massimov possesses the needed experience and knowledge, President of Kazakhstan said.

President Nazarbayev has already met with leaders of factions of the Majilis (lower chamber of the parliament) to discuss candidates to the position of the Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan.

Leader of the parliament faction of Nur Otan party Nurlan Nigmatuln has already expressed his support to the candidate proposed by the President. He remained that Karim Massimov had already served as Prime-Minister before and it was during the time of the global financial crisis.

The leader of the People’s Communists faction Vladislav Kossarev also supported the President’s proposal saying that it accords with the interests of the nation.
Leader of Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan faction in the Parliament Azat Peruashev said that appointment of Karim Massimov would be welcomed by the country’ business community and the nation in general.

Karim Massimov was born in Tselinograd (now Astana) in 1965. He graduated from the People's Friendship University of Russia, Moscow, and then studied in Beijing and at Wuhan University in Hubei, China.
