Nazarbayev meets General Electric Oil & Gas President17 june 2014, 15:15
Last week Kazakhstan President had a meeting with Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of General Electric Oil & Gas company, Tengrinews reports referring to the presidential website.
The meeting was held within the framework of 27th plenary session of the Foreign Investors Council held on June 12, 2014 in Borovoe resort area in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting they discussed cooperation in oil and gas infrastructure, energy, transportation and healthcare. Nazarbayev praised the company's investment activities in Kazakhstan and its willingness to continue expansion. He also emphasized that it was important to take the diesel locomotives manufactured by the Astana-based plant to the export markets.
They also commended the company for successful interaction with government agencies and national companies in Kazakhstan.
General Electric's representation office was opened in Almaty in 1994. It is now one of the largest foreign companies operating in Kazakhstan. It currently has partnerships and contractual relations with over 200 companies in Kazakhstan. And Astana city, Kazakhstan's capital, is home to a facility producing GE Evolution locomotives.
The Foreign Investors Council (FIC) is an advisory body established in 1998. It is aimed to promote interaction between the Government of Kazakhstan and foreign investors to efficiently address key issues related to their investment activities in the country as well as to improve the investment climate of Kazakhstan for the benefit of foreign investors, local and national companies.
This year, the session was mainly focusing on the foreign investors’ participation in implementation of the second five year phase of Kazakhstan's industrialization plan.
