Nazarbayev invites South Korean President to visit Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met President of South Korea Park Geun-hye during the G20 summit, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service.

The meeting covered implementation of the agreements reached during Korean President Lee Myung-Bak's visit to Kazakhstan, development of strategic partnership between the countries and key ways to enhance the bilateral cooperation.

Kazakhstan has a traditionally close relations with South Korea and is aiming at their further development, Nazarbayev noted. “There is an active interaction in trade and investments. A lot of work was done together with the previous President Lee Myung-Bak. A Korean company is taking part in construction of a major power station in our country. There are several joint projects in engineering and oil chemistry. Besides, the work of the inter-government commissions on economic cooperation helped bring the investment portfolio to around $8 billion. 120 thousand Kazakhstan citizens who are ethnic Koreans represent a good ‘bridge’ for further enhancement of cooperation between the countries,” the President stressed.

Nazarbayev congratulated Park Geun-hye on her election President of South Korea and invited her to visit Kazakhstan.

The President of South Korea thanked for the invitation and promised to render a visit to Kazakhstan. “We are glad to congratulate Kazakhstan on the coming hosting of EXPO-2017 exhibition in Astana. We have an experience of organizing such events, in particular in Yeosu city, and we are ready to share it,” the President said.

Park Geun-hye stressed the important role that Nursultan Nazarbayev played in achievement of the successful and dynamic development by Kazakhstan, the good international weight that the country has gained over the years and the initiative to voluntary give up the world's fourth largest nuclear arsenal that Kazakhstan inherited from the Soviet Union, the message states.

The presidents also discussed projects in trade, energy, investment and engineering sectors and cooperation in high technologies. Besides, they covered the international agenda and enhancement of the regional security.
