Nursultan Nazarbayev will address the 70th United Nations General Assembly on the same day as US President Barack Obama, Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Tengrinews reports citing the Director of Kazakhstan's Institute of Strategic Research Yerlan Karin.

This year's General Assembly meeting that is scheduled to kick off at UN Headquarters in New York, the United States on September 15, 2015 will mark the 70th anniversary of the organization. Apart from that, the member states will adopt a post-2015 Development Agenda and discuss the climate change as part of preparations to the UN Climate Change Conference that is to take place in Paris on November 30.

According to the provisional list of speakers circulated by the UN in July, Nursultan Nazarbayev will address the UN General Assembly on the first day of the General Policy Debates, which will start on September 28 and last for two weeks, along with leaders of the US, Brazil, Poland, China, Jordan, Russia, South Korea, Iran, France, Qatar, the Netherlands, Mexico, Portugal, Mozambique and Denmark.

Although the list is still subject to change, President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff will speak first. In fact, Brazil representative always speaks first, because the country chaired the first General Assembly meeting. After that, Dilma Rousseff will give the floor to Barack Obama.

According to Yerlan Karin, it is not a coincidence that Nazarbayev will speak on the same day with Obama and Putin. "The fact that Kazakhstan's President is invited to speak on the first day of the debates during the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly shows the extent of involvement of our country in the global agenda discussion. The President of Kazakhstan has been invited to all kinds of world forums like G8 and G20 summits, the Global Anti-Nuclear Summit many times before. He is a well-known politician, whose opinion is respected. Therefore, the participation of Nursultan Nazarbayev on the first day of the General Policy Debates in New York along with the leaders of the United States, Russia and China is not a coincidence," Karin asserted.

In July, the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Stephane Dujarric said that the UN expected a record number of participants in the upcoming 70th session of the UN General Assembly. "We hope very much for the highest level of representation in the General Assembly,” Dujarric said then.

Out of 193 UN member states, 155 have already expressed interest in attending the session.
