Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry has released a statement regarding the agreement on Iran’s nuclear activities between Iran and P5+1 achieved as a result of the negotiations held in Lausanne, Switzerland, Tengrinews reports.

The talks between the so-called P5+1, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia plus Germany, and Iran were supposed to finish on March 31, but the negotiations continued beyond this deadline.

April 2, 2015 saw a milestone in the talks between West and Iran over the latter's nuclear activities.

The sides finally stroke an agreement when Iran committed to sharply curtail its nuclear programme, particularly reduce the number of its installed centrifuges (used to enrich uranium) by almost two thirds in return for lifting of Western sanctions that have crippled the country's economy.

However, the sanctions can be brought back if Iran does not fullfil its obligations.

Following the end of the talks, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry released a statement. “Kazakhstan welcomes the political framework agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and P5+1 on April 2, 2015. We have always advocated resolution of the issues over Iran’s nuclear program through political and diplomatic methods; this approach contributes to  strengthening of the international security,” the statement said.

Being a country that voluntarily dismantled its nuclear arsenal after the break down of the Soviet Union and has been strongly advocating for non-proliferation, Kazakhstan has played a important role in this negotiation processes, the statement said.

“Our country provided a platform for two rounds of negotiations held on February 25-26 and April 5-6, 2013 that significantly contributed to rebuilding the trust between Iran and P5+1 and facilitated the constructive dialogue,” the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

“We hope that the political will of the involved countries will not falter and will play a crucial part in reaching a comprehensive agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear program at the agreed time,” the Ministry concluded.

In addition, Iran will also be subject to international inspections of increased intensity under the framework deal.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani wrote in his Twitter account: "Solutions on key parameters of Iran ‪#nuclear case reached. Drafting to start immediately, to finish by June 30th. ‪#IranTalks".

It is worth mentioning that the deal reached on April 2 is a preliminary one before a full and comprehensive agreement is completed by June 30, 2015.
