Kazakhstan taking part in anti-nuclear summit in Iran

Kazakhstan delegation is taking part in the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) that opened on August 30 in Tehran, Iran, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry. Kazakhstan, having the observer status in the Movement, is represented by Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov. His speech is scheduled for the second day of the summit, August 31. “Participants of the meeting are discussing the most important issues of the global agenda, including reformation of the UN, prevention and regulation of conflicts, non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons, sustainable development, overcoming the global financial and economic crisis, protection of human rights and etc. Special attention is given to such regional issues as the situation in Syria, Palestinian problem, creation of nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East and development of peaceful atom,” the press-service states. “At the first day of the forum Kazykhanov held bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bahrain, Belarus, India, Mongolia, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka, as well as with president of the Islamic Development Bank. The meetings covered current issues of bilateral and multilateral interaction,” the press-service writes. Non-Aligned Movement was established by 25 countries at the Belgrade Conference in September 1961. Its main principle lays in non-participation in military blocks.The movement currently counts 120 member-countries and around 20 observer-states.
