Kazakhstan has offered Russia to develop a cooperation program until 2030 for Baikanur Cosmodrome, Tengrinews reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan's Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov.

First Deputy Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan Bakhytzhan Sagintayev had a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitriy Rogozin yesterday, on December 10.

"Kazakhstan proposed to consider developing and adopting a long-term program of bilateral cooperation in space industry, including the Baikonur Cosmodrome, to be implemented until 2030. The plan should be focused on ensuring long-term mutually beneficial cooperation," the message said.

According to the current agreements, Russia is leasing Baikonur Cosmodrome until 2050.

However, according to Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, the previously achieved agreements on Baikonur and on construction of new ecologically-friendly space vehicles require new approaches and revisions.

It is very important for Kazakhstan to launch its third communication satellite KazSat 3 from Baikonur on schedule, the Vice-Prime-Minister said. The satellite is currently at the final stage of construction at the plant of the Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev Company, Sagintayev said during the meeting, adding that there were no technical reasons for delaying the KazSat 3 launch into the geosynchronous orbit.

During the meeting they also discussed environmental security, management of Baikonur space center, development of Baikonur town and adjacent villages Akai and Toretam, prospects of military technical cooperation and joint development of Baiterek rocket complex.

"Summarizing they stressed that Kazakhstan and Russia were ready to step up the pace of bilateral cooperation and acknowledged that the two countries had full mutual understanding in regards to cooperation in space industry and military equipment," the press-service said.
