Kazakhstan is mulling to introduce visa-free regime for the citizens of 34 member-countries of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Develoment (OECD) starting from July 1, KazTAG reports citing head of European Department of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry Berik Sadykov.

"Initially we thought of July 1. There is no decision yet, but I think we will announce it soon," he said in a interview to KazTAG. According to Sadykov, the issue is currently "being coordinated with the involved state authorities and a government decree is being prepared". The representative of the Foreign Ministry stated that the pilot visa-free regime for the citizens of OECD countries will last until October 31.

According to head of the Consular Department of Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yryskali Daurenbek, "the citizens of OECD countries will be able to visit Kazakhstan several times without visas during this experiment". He noted that "the experiment may be prolonged and the list of countries may be extended" if it is successful.

"Foreign citizens will be able to come to Kazakhstan for up to 15 days without a need for visa and visit the country several times. We are introducing a visa-free regime with OECD countries as an experiment. It the results are positive and there are no violations by foreign citizens, we will be able to prolong this period," Daurenbek said.

The plan is that the citizens of OECD countries will be able to visit Kazakhstan without payment of any consular fees and visa procedures. The decision on prolongation of the visa-free regime for the citizens of OECD member-countries may be taken based on the recommendation of a special commission "upon the results of the analysis of the experiment". It will analyze Kazakhstan's revenues from the money imported and spent by the foreigners and the losses on consular fees.

"The losses on consular fees have to be compensated by a surge of tourism and number of foreign citizens in Kazakhstan. They will not be dieting or staying indoors: they will book hotels, use transport, rent cars, take tours and buy souvenirs. There is a statistical data that one tourist gives work to seven citizens of the country and leaves up to $1,000 in several weeks of stay," Daurenbek noted.

34 countries are memebrs of OECD: Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Grecce, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Turkey, Israel, Japan, South Korea, the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Chile.
