Kazakhstan increased the number of check points for special cargoes from the U.S. to Afghanistan. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed changes to the respective Treaty between Kazakhstan and the U.S. on November 9, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President's press-service.

“The President signed the Law On ratification of the Protocol on amending the Treaty between the Government of Kazakhstan and the Government of the United States of America on provision of commercial railroad transit for special cargoes via the territory of Kazakhstan in relation to participation of the United States of America in efforts on stabilization and restoration of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,” the official message states.

One more check point in Kazakhstan will become an alternative to the existing check point at the border with Uzbekistan. “I would like to explain that this is done to ensure that the route goes across a less populated territory of Kazakhstan and further from Kazakh-Uzbek border,” Novosti-Kazakhstan citied Kazakhstan Foreign Minister. “The document is part of an important foreign policy goal set by President Nazarbayev aimed to create a security belt around our country.”
