Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has had a meeting with Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the Kazakh President.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two nations as well as the current issues on the international agenda.

The Kazakh leader emphasized close historical ties of the people of Kazakhstan and Hungary. “We consider Hungary a true friend. We have common historical roots and similar ways of development. Hungary is an important support point in Europe for us,” Nazarbayev said.

He also pointed out the progressive development of the bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary. “It is not the first time we meet. These contacts demonstrate our interest in strengthening the trade and economic ties. We highly appreciate the fact that Hungary was the first country in the European Union to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Kazakhstan. We will do our best to make this visit productive and to achieve agreements in specific areas of our cooperation,” Nazarbayev said.

Viktor Orban, in turn, thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the invitation and conveyed greetings from the people of Hungary. "Amid the complicated situation in the world, we are interested to learn about your vision of the prospects and future of our cooperation. I would like to assure you that Kazakhstan has a reliable friend in the European Union. I would like to inform you that a street named 'Astana' was opened in Budapest. We believe we have high level of political and cultural cooperation and we feel your support behind it,” Viktor Orban said.
