Kazakhstan is not among the countries that pose a terrorist threat, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman said today, August 1, during his visit to Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports.

“Kazakhstan and the United States are partners in the fight against this threat and it gives a clear signal that Kazakhstan is not one of the countries posing a terrorist threat itself. That was a report that has nothing to do with any particular countries, but concerns only particular individuals,” Marc Grossman said commenting the report published by the US Department of Homeland Security .

Marc Grossman said that the much talked-of inclusion of Kazakhstan into the specially designated countries list was discussed in a meeting with Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov.

The US Special Representative praised Kazakhstan’s support in the fight against terrorism. Among other issues Kazykhanov and Grossman discussed the situation in Afghanistan at the meeting.

These steps (Kazakhstan’s support in stabilization of Afghanistan) are highly appreciated by America,” Marc Grossman said.

The Foreign Minister and the Special Representative also discussed the schedule of future meetings. One of their meetings will take place in the framework of the UN General Assembly the other one is expected to take place in Istanbul in November as part of the summit of the countries bordering on Afghanistan.
