Kazakhstan co-chairs OECD Central Asian Initiative

Kazakhstan has become co-chairman of Central Asian Initiative of OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of the government of Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan has accepted the authorities of co-chairman of Central Asian Initiative of the OECD, the Organization’s deputy Secretary General Richard A. Boucher notified Kazakhstan deputy Prime-Minister Yerbol Orynbayev in the official document,” the message states.

In his letter Richard A. Boucher praised Kazakhstan’s role in the region and its active participation in the Initiative’s work and thanked for the support of the country’s leaders to the projects implemented by the OECD.

Established in 2008, the Central Asian Initiative is a part of the OED Eurasian Competitiveness Program aims to help create a sound business climate for investment, enhance productivity, support entrepreneurship, develop the private sector, and build knowledge-based economies to render this region more competitive and attractive to foreign investment.

Improvement of Regional Competitiveness, Optimization of regulation system for competitiveness improvement and Strategy for improvement of the industry competitiveness projects are currently being implemented in Kazakhstan as part of the Initiative.

Besides Kazakhstan, the Initiative’s member-countries include Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan will be chairing it for three years jointly with other OECD member-states.
