Kazakhstan and Mexico will strengthen their bilateral cooperation, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On June 22 in Astana, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov had a meeting with Gabriela Cuevas, Mexican Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman and member of the right-wing National Action Party.

During the meeting, they discussed the current state and prospects of the bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Mexico, which, according to Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Idrissov, had reached a new level. "The decision of the Mexican Government to open the embassy in Astana this year confirms this, and we are ready to provide all possible assistance," Idrissov said.

Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening ties with Mexico in oil, chemistry, machinery, mining, metallurgy, textile and food industries, Idrissov said. He invited leading Mexican companies to cooperate with Kazakhstan-based enterprises in agriculture and food production.

The Minister reminded that Kazakhstan had completed its negotiations to ascend the World Trade Organization.

Minister Idrissov also suggested signing a convention for avoidance of double taxation and an agreement on mutual protection of investments between Kazakhstan and Mexico during the visit of Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Mexico scheduled for this fall, and to consider making travel to Mexico visa label free for Kazakhstani citizens and use electronic confirmation of visas instead.

Gabriela Cuevas confirmed Mexico's readiness to further expand the bilateral cooperation with Kazakhstan in various areas, as well to the intensification of cooperation in multilateral fora.
