Members of the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s Parliament - the Majilis - shared their opinion about the work of the Kazakh Government. This happened when the Government resigned after the presidential election of April 26 that saw President Nursultan Nazarbayev re-elected for the fifth consecutive term by an avalanche majority of votes. The resignation of the government after presidential elections is prescribed by the Constitution of Kazakhstan. Later the government was re-appoined and remained effectively the same, Tengrinews reports.

"They worked closely together in this line-up, successfully performed the tasks. I do not see any need to replace anyone, so they will continue their work," Nazarbayev said then.

Most of the Majilis deputies supported the vision of the Kazakh leader and told in an interview to Tengrinews that it was important to keep the Government in the same composition, so that it could continue working on president’s initiatives.

“Work, work and work for the good of the country. The crisis is here today. This government works well and purposefully. Why would we change it? It will take a long time for a new government to adapt and get down to work. We have a good government capable of quick decision-making,” Majilis deputy Yuriy Timoschenko said.

Another deputy Zagipa Baliyeva shared the opinion: “There is nothing wrong, I believe, that everything happens so fast. We should not change horses in midstream. We need to continue working on five institutional reforms set forth in the Nurly Zhol program. (…) I think the Cabinet works harmoniously and has been implementing the set goals. This is why, I do not think that any big changes (in the composition of the Government) are needed.”

The MPs praised the work of the Government with one of them saying that it worked to the maximum and another saying that it was composed of professionals.

Majilis Deputy Aigul Solovieva emphasised that the Government had already started working on the Nurly Zhol program. “This government worked quite well, in my opinion. (…) Five reforms suggested by the president increase the powers of the Parliament and the Government. We will be working hard to be worthy of the trust the people vested in us and to meet their expectations. As the President said, we should not waste our time,” she said.

A members of the Majilis Yelena Tarasenko also emphasized the need to keep up the work on the reforms: “Time does not stand still and does not tolerate those who are wait around for something. Therefore, I think everything will be fine. The government worked like clock, like a machine. Therefore, I think it will continue working in the same way.”

“This all was done so that no time is lost. We need to work on the tasks set by the president and on the promises we gave to the people. Everything should be done on time, because the world is changing very fast. We should address all the challenges that the president spoke about. And only with clear instructions and quick decision-making can we respond to the challenges,” Yelena Tarasenko said.
