Karim Massimov meets Georgian PM

Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov has met with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili during his official visit to Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports. It was the first official visit of Irakli Garibashvili to Kazakhstan as Georgian PM.

During the meeting, the Prime-Ministers discussed a wide range of issues related to the bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, investments and transit transport.

“We agreed on the need to step up our cooperation in trade. The two countries have got untapped potential to expand the bilateral trade. We are interested in establishing contacts in sectors like transport, communications, agriculture, tourism and many others,” Karim Massimov said.

Expansion of the transit-transport corridors that link the two countries was also on the meeting’s agenda, he added. "Kazakhstan is interested in early completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad that will provide a flow of Kazakh goods to Europe across the Caspian Sea, and Georgian goods to Central Asia and China through the territory of Kazakhstan," Karim Massimov said.

“In general, I believe that the visit of Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili to Astana will bring the Kazakh-Georgian relations to a higher level of alliance and strategic partnership, " Karim Massimov said.

Irakli Garibashvili said that Kazakhstan had always been Georgia’s friend and strategic partner. "We have had a very productive visit and a meeting with the President. We came to reiterate our respect to you. Kazakhstan is a very important country and the Kazakh people are dear to us. We have always had warm relations. The essential task for me is to deepen the trade relations and the ties between the people of our countries. Kazakhstan has an enormous potential. Georgia is your reliable partner, your ‘reliable transit corridor’. We would like to emphasize our readiness to implement very interesting projects that will be effective and will strengthen the economies of our countries,” the Georgian PM said.

During his visit, he also met Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev to discuss the current state and prospects of the countries' bilateral cooperation in trade, investments and energy. “Kazakhstan have always had good relations with Georgia. During all the years of independence, our bilateral ties have been actively developing. We are ready to continue developing out cooperation with Georgia in all areas, both in politics and economy,” the Kazakh President said.

Kazakhstan and Georgia established the diplomatic relations back in 1992. The two countries have more than 40 documents on various areas of bilateral cooperation.
