Secretariat of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) will be transferred from Moscow to Almaty by 2015, Tengrinews.kz reports citing representatives of the Center as saying at the press-conference.

Moving the organization's head-office was announced at the ISTC week in Kazakhstan. The Center has been operating at the territory of Kazakhstan since 1995. According to the member of the Scientific Advisory Committee Jean-Pierre Contzen, Kazakhstan has received over $60 million for implementation of projects during this period.

"We are enhancing our presence in Kazakhstan,” Executive Director of the Center Adriaan van der Meer said. According to him, the Center is planning to “render further support, providing more opportunities to Kazakhstan scientists for cooperation with their foreign peers in Canada, Europe, Japan and USA.”

President of Kazakhstan National Academy of Science Murat Zhurinov thinks that moving the ISTC office will help innovative development of the country. He noted that financing in science is expected. “2 percent of GDP will be allocated for development of science by 2020,” Zhurinov said.

Non-commercial inter-government organization International Science and Technology Center has been financing research projects in 7 CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries since 1994. ISTC has its regional branches in each of these countries, including Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Center's fund is formed up by governments of Canada, Japan, the EU and USA. The organization allocates the money for projects in healthcare, agriculture, energy and global security.
