U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kenneth J. Fairfax confuted involvement of the U.S. in Zhanaozen events, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kenneth J. Fairfax as saying after the lecture at Kazakhstan President’s Academy of State Management.

“Of course, I read those articles. The articles in Kontur magazine and elsewhere saying that Americans were behind the events and that possibly I did those terrible things. I don’t know why they make such outrageous statements. Of course, this is not true,” U.S. Ambassador said, but noted that everyone has a right to express an opinion. Although those statements were groundless in this particular case, he repeated.

According to the diplomat, Kazakhstan President made the most convincing statement during his visit to Zhanaozen after the clashes. “And despite of the fact that President Nazarbayev accepted and noted that the situation could have been influenced from outside, he also noted that Zhanaozen required social changes, including employment and new jobs. It was a very balancing statement,” Faifax commented on the versions about influence from the outside being behind Zhanaozen clashes.

The Ambassador noted that he had no access to the investigation details and everything he saw was that there had been people trying to influence the situation in Zhanaozen and that there had been the prerequisites at the event's site. All these things were being resolved and corrected, he noted.
