Counter attempts to glorify Nazism: Heads of CIS

Heads of the CIS countries have delivered an address dedicated to the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory Day calling the international community to counter attempts to glorify Nazism, Tengrinews reports citing Kazpravda.kz.

“For the people of the Commonwealth of Independent States, May 9, 1945 is a sacred, highly important and honoured date. The date forever remains the symbol of selflessness and valour in the name of freedom, independence of our people and salvation of humanity from the Nazi enslavement. In the harsh years of war, our nations, manifesting indissoluble bonds of friendship and high patriotism on the battlefield and labor front won the war together. Today, the great heritage of the Victory stands as an important moral value and guide for the postwar generations in establishing just and secure world,” the address said.

Heads of the CIS countries called to honour the memory of those who perished in the war against fascism, preserve military cemeteries, memorials and monuments, and continue the search of the remains of soldiers and civilians who died during the war.

“We bow before the veterans for the merit beyond the call of duty and home front workers for their labor achievements during the Great Patriotic War and postwar recovery of national economies. Our duty is to continue taking care of them. We highly appreciate the courage of European and other nations that joined us to resist Nazism and we remember the contribution and help of our allies in the anti-Hitler coalition in gaining the joint Victory. With increasing concern we observe cynical attempts to cast a veil over the lessons learned from the war, distort moral and legal evaluations of the war, give equal rights to both victims and executioners, corrupt the honourable memory of the fallen, rehabilitate Nazi criminals and collaborators and revive the theory of racial and national supremacy,” the address said .

Heads of the CIS urged the world to strongly resist any attempts of Nazism glorification, revival of Fascist ideology and development of xenophobia and racism.

“Our nations suffered greatest human and material losses in the past war. We call to foster a sense of pride among the younger generations for the great act of bravery in the battle against fascism. We, the Head of the Commonwealth of Independent States reaffirming our commitment to the generally accepted principles and norms of international law provisioned by the UN and Helsinki Final Act, encourage active cooperation in promoting security and stability in the world, combating international terrorism and extremism, achieving peaceful political settlement of current conflicts and prevention of emergence of new conflicts,” the leaders of the CIS countries declared.

The CIS countries plan to continue “strengthening all-round cooperation in the world to guarantee stable development of all nations”.
