A monument to Charles De Gaulle has been erected in Astana, Tengrinews reports citing the city’s Akimat (Municipal Authorities).
On December 10, the Akim of Astana Adilbek Dzhaksybekov and Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Kazakhstan Francis Etienne ceremonially opened the monument dedicated to the political leader of France. The new monument symbolizes strong relationships between France and Kazakhstan.
In his speech, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov noted the historical importance of Charles De Gaulle in establishement of modern France. The Akim also noted the importance of France as one of Kazakhstan’s partners in economy and humanities. The recent visit of French President Francois Hollande to Kazakhstan, according to Dzhaksybekov, was a sign of strengthening of the political dialogue and cooperation between the countries.
The 3.1-meter Charles de Gaulle monument in Astana was created by Valery Pirozhkov.
In 2008, a street in Astana was named after Charles De Gaulle. The street is situated in one of the comfortable residential districts of the city. Residential complexes French Quarter and Paris Quarter have become pieces of France in the heart of Astana.
