President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has urged the Kazakh government to attract large transnational corporations. He was speaking about Kazakhstan's industrialization projects during a nationwide teleconference dedicated to the Day of Industrialization on December 25, Tengrinews reports citing BNews.kz.

“We have agreed to create a couple dozen processing companies, or probably more (…) We have to complete the second stage of the aluminum plant in Pavlodar. Currently we have 250 thousand tons and aim to get 500 thousand tons. Also, we plan to create a new environmentally friendly fine steel plant somewhere in Rudniy or Kostanay. By doing so we won’t have to export ore but produce metals right there. We need a new processing plant in any case,” Nazarbayev said.

The President added that new large enterprises in oil and gas industries were also called for in Kazakhstan. The preliminary cost of such projects amounts to $6-8 billion. But despite high costs these projects, according to Nazarbayev, have great benefits for the country's industrial and economic development.

“But then it gives us a whole range of chemical products from medicine to gas. We will be working on large-scale industrial projects. Also, Kazakhstan needs a new copper plant with a full production cycle. Lead would be used in production of the best accumulators. There are many goals and the industrial sector of the country will follow this path. Today I set a goal for the government of Kazakhstan to attract at least 5 transnational corporations to aid us in construction of five new processing plants,” Nazarbayev said.

During the nationwide teleconference, Nazarbayev also spoke about the Nurly Zhol project and its effects on the EEU.
