A quarter of Kazakhstan’s population will be over 65 years old by 2050, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President’s Advisor and Chairman of Kazakhstan President's National Commission on Women and Population Policy Gulshara Abdykalikova as saying at the 3rd Eurasian Women’s Summit. “According to the forecasts, the country will have 25 percent of the population at the age of over 65. The majority of them will be women. We are working on a suggestion for improvement of the life conditions of elderly people that would help overcome their image of dependents,” Gulshara Abdykalikova said. According to her, this information was announced by the UN that considers Kazakhstan a nation with a high rate of aging. Abdykalikova also noted that Kazakhstan had a range of problems in demography amid improvement of its economy. “Surveys show that around 5 percent of girls aged from 15 to 18 are married. Many of them were forced to marriage. It is necessary to run an awareness campaign about health and life of children and introduce changes into the relevant legislation,” Abdykalikova said.
