Norway has refused asylum to an Ukrainian ex-nurse of Libya's leader Moamer Kadhafi, a tabloid website said Tuesday, AFP reports.

It was not possible to obtain confirmation from Norwegian immigration services, police, or the justice ministry, as authorities have a legal obligation to preserve the confidentiality of individual cases.

The newspaper Verdens Gang quoted several unnamed sources as saying 38-year-old Galyna Kolotnytska, who has been described as a "voluptuous blonde" by diplomatic cables, was still in Norway despite the rejection of her asylum claim.

On Thursday, Norway's Police Security Service had confirmed to AFP that she had sought asylum in the country.

Despite officials being tight-lipped about Kolotnytska's claim, official immigration statistics indicate her chances at obtaining asylum in Norway were fairly low: last year, nine asylum requests filed by Ukrainians were all turned down.

Kolotnytska was propelled into the spotlight when WikiLeaks published US diplomatic cables saying she was so important to Kadhafi he could not travel without her.

She left Ukraine for Libya nine years ago, working in a hospital before becoming the Libyan leader's nurse.

Kolotnytska was evacuated from Libya in February and went into hiding in Ukraine to escape media attention. She has not given any interviews.

In March, she reportedly moved from her flat in Kiev to an unknown location to escape media harassment.
