Director of Shal and Kelin movies to leave Kazakhstan

Prominent Kazakhstan filmmaker Yermek Tursunov said that he would like to leave Kazakhstan in future. “I am not planning to stay in this country, when I reach retirement age. I don’t respect this country for its attitude to elderly people. In general I don't want to have anything to do with this state at all,” he said answering Megapolis.kz question about his future retirement.

Yermek Tursunov is 51-y.o. He made his first film titled Kelin (Daughter-in-law) in 2008. The movie was initially branded as amoral in Kazakhstan, but the American Film Academy shortlisted it among other nine movies for the Best Foreign Film Award.

Then Kazakhstan filmmaker directed Shal movie. It became the best movie of 2012 in Kazakhstan and was awarded with national Kulager award. At present Tursunov directs the third part of his trilogy Kenzhe.

Earlier Yermek Tursunov wrote the scripts for such movies as Who are you, Mister Ka?, Sabalak, Mustafa Shokai, Baksy, Close Combat, Patchwork Blanket, Abulkhair Khan, Tax-collector.
