Kazakhstan’s boxer, Olympic champion and winner of Val Barker Trophy Serik Sapiyev might become a public officer after retiring from boxing, Tengrinews.kz reports. He shared his opinion and future plans during a meeting with Arystan Specialized Lyceum’s students that he visited as an honorary guest.

Sapiyev is an Army Athlete so Kazakhstan Minister of Defense awarded him along with another Army Athlete track-and-field champion Olga Rypakova with Captain’s straps awarding them the ranks ahead of time after their victory at the 30th Summer Olympic Games.

Answering the questions Sapiyev said he was not sure he would participate in the next Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro. He added that he’d like to become a public officer when he retires.

“I am thinking about this now. Perhaps, I will be engaged in a public service. I’d like to work for the benefit of my country not only in boxing. I need to rest for a while at present. I am not thinking about myself and Rio de Janeiro Olympics yet. If I stay in sport I will continue boxing in 69kg weight division. I have several medical tests to undergo in Germany now. Then I will go to a health training camp to the Czech Republic. Then I will decide what to do next,” he said and explained that he had problems with his spine.

Serik Sapiyev, Kazakhstan National Olympic team captain, was tagged the best boxer at the 30th London Olympic Games that were held on July 27 – August 12. Besides the gold medal he won Val Barker Trophy as the most technical boxer of the Olympics.

Kazakhstan national team was ranked 12th by medal count winning 13 medals.

The champion is studying Mining Engineering at Karaganda State Technical University at present.
