An American family of Bretwood Higman and Erin McKittrick with two kids lives in a yurt in Alaska, Express-K writes.

Doctor of Geology Bretwood Higman and his wife microbiologist Erin McKittrick moved to the woods several years ago. Lack of common amenities and severe frost did not make the couple regret their decision. The yurt is protecting them from the cold and winds.

They have already covered over 11 thousand kilometers on foot, skis and inflatable rafts. The children have been traveling with their parents.

The family is observing the nature and telling about their adventures in their blog. Internet is the only attribute of civilization that the couple could not give up.

A yurt is a portable, bent wood-framed dwelling structure traditionally used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia, including Kazakhstan. It is considered Kazakh national dwelling. The structure is usually covered by layers of fabric and sheep's wool felt for insulation and weatherproofing.
