88 percent of Kazakhstan orphanage children have parents. And only 12 percent are full orphans, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Deputy of the Mazhilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) Bakhyt Syzdykova's Twitter microblog.

“14 052 children! And only 12 percent are full orphans, the other children are social orphans, their parents are alive!” Syzdykova, who took part in an international conference on preventive measures and reduction of the number of orphans in Kazakhstan wrote in her blog.

She added that “there are 38 386 orphan children and children aged from 0 to 18 years who are left without custody at the present time in Kazakhstan. The MP attached information on provision of accommodation for the orphanage schools graduates to her Twitter message. “The data covers only the period of two years, and imagine the twenty years' total,” Syzdykova added.

According to the data, 22 067 children from the total number of orphans live in families under guardianship, 2267 live in foster care and 14 052 children live in orphanages.
