A packed commuter train crashed into a railway terminus in Buenos Aires during rush hour on February 22, leaving at least 49 people dead and more than 600 others injured.

Here are the deadliest rail accidents worldwide in recent years:

2011

July 10 -- INDIA -- The derailment of a passenger train some 90 miles (150 kilometers) from the town of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, leaves at least 69 dead and 200 injured.

2010

May 28 -- INDIA -- 146 dead and more than 200 hurt after a train derails and crashes into a goods convoy, around 80 miles (135 kilometers) west of Kolkata, capital of West Bengal. Authorities say the crash is an act of sabotage by Maoist rebels.

June 21 -- CONGO -- 56 killed and 667 injured in the derailment of an overcrowded train in Yanga, in the south of the country.

July 19 -- INDIA -- 63 dead and more than 100 hurt in a crash between an express train and an immobile train at a station in Birbhum district, 125 miles (200 kilometers) north of Kolkata.

April 28 -- CHINA -- At least 70 killed in a collision between two trains in the east of the country.
